The 15th annual Biometrics conference and exhibition was held in London on October 29-31st, 2012. The event is the leading international forum for the biometrics industry to showcase their latest products and expertise. In general, Biometrics 2012 reviewed the latest standards, government policies and outlined what needs to be done to ensure broader practical implementation of the technology. With all the main players in the industry attending, including solution providers, system integrators and technology developers, the event provided a comprehensive overview of state-of-the-art within biometric, smart card and related ID solutions.
During the event, the GINI representative attended the exhibition on October 30-31st, engaging in discussions with a number of possible operators and/or relying parties such as AUTHASAS, WCC, Cross Match, DigitalPersona, etc. The event produced an improved understanding of how authorisation and authentication could be separated for different services. This would enhance users’ ability to manage their own digital identity and related personal data.

The document reflects the culmination of the GINI-SA project undertaken since June 2010 to address the societal, business, legal and technological aspects related to developing an ecosystem capable of generating viable long-term solutions to outstanding challenges of identity management in the digital world.

Thomas Andersson, Chairman of GINI held a on-hour presentation on the preliminary conclusions of the project and led discussions with delegates at the International Telecom Union's Study Group 17 meeting in Geneva, on 31st August 2012 (tutorial session "Personalized, Privacy-Enhancing Identity Management").
Delegates asked how the INDI framework could help resolve the privacy problems, how individuals could be supported tomanage the technological challenges and on the nature of the recommendations from the project with regard to the short as well as the long term.

The GINI agenda was presented at a special session on identity management organised by ITU/OISTE at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), in Geneva on May 16th 2012. Organised as a discussion event, the session featured intensive exchanges between representatives of the public sector, business, and civil society. The presentation on GINI-SA (Global Identity Networking of Individuals - Support Action) what can be done to enable substantive progress in the development of an Identity Ecosystem with complementary roles for multiple mutually interrelated functions and players. At the end of the day, there needs to be competition for different kinds of services and users must express their preferences and make active choices. At the same time, close collaboration is required between multiple stakeholders, e.g., to work out the required e-infrastructure and standards, and to catalyze experiementation in new initiatives that can lay the basis for a viable future market in this area.click here

Cyber Security & Privacy EU Forum (CSP-EU) organised a conference on the 25th-26th of April, 2012 in Berlin. On the 2nd day of the conference GINI-SA arranged a workshop to highlight the importance of the GINI concept to address the Cyber security & Privacy issues in the digital era.
